ASML is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of chip-making equipment. The company is renowned for its state-of-the-art high-tech innovations. The new Senior Manager Corporate Strategy works with senior leadership (e.g. Executive Committee and Board of Management) to develop and execute ASML’s strategy. The position is an optimal landing spot for former strategy consultants.
ASML is one of the flagships of the Dutch economy. The company invents and develops complex technology and machinery the semiconductor industry utilizes to create transistors and computer chips. Together with its customers, ASML keeps Moore’s law alive. The manufacturer enables its customers to produce ever smaller, cheaper, more energy-efficient and more powerful semiconductors.
ASML is headquartered in Veldhoven and employs over 23,000 people worldwide, spread across 60+ offices. In 2018 the high-tech giant’s net sales added up to 10.9 billion euro’s. A key driver behind the company’s success is innovation. That’s why over a third of ASML’s workforce and over 1.5 billion euro’s each year are allocated to R&D.
With the age of the PC behind us, we are now entering the time of immersive computing. Everybody and everything will be connected and the lines between the physical and the digital will blur. We’ll see advancements such as 5G connectivity, AI, autonomous cars and artificial neural networks. ASML is the catalyst for these developments and pushes the boundaries of what’s possible.
VACANCY: SENIOR MANAGER CORPORATE STRATEGY
The Senior Manager works on developing and executing corporate strategies. He/she builds strategic roadmaps and manages change. The Senior Manager is part of the Corporate Strategy department. This is a newly formed team that’s being built up by Vice President Jeroen Kemp.
“Senior Manager Corporate Strategy is an ideal landing spot within ASML. You get a holistic understanding of our business and are highly visible to senior leadership. He/she needs hands-on experience in strategy development, e.g. on top line, M&A and transformation. The Senior Manager should also fit well within our culture. We have a highly educated workforce that can be quite confrontational on content. He/she has to be comfortable with that.” – Jeroen Kemp (former ADL), Vice President Corporate Strategy
MANAGING ANNUAL STRATEGY PROCESS
The Senior Manager manages the yearly strategic planning process. He/she ensures valuable and consistent input from subprocesses, like e.g. long term market reviews, product portfolio management, and long term financial planning. The Senior Manager also secures alignment of ASML’s overarching corporate strategy with mid-term strategic plans of all business lines and sectors.
The Senior Manager works closely together with senior leadership. He/she interacts frequently with members from the Executive Committee, the Board of Management, Finance, and with senior business line managers.
LEAD DEMANDING STRATEGIC PROGRAMS
Besides the yearly strategy cycle, the Senior Manager initiates and drives cross-company strategic initiatives, most of which are defined as part of the strategy cycle. This results in a very broad and mixed program portfolio. Topics can range from expansion and new market strategies (e.g. China) to developing new business models and client propositions (e.g. around services and upgrades). The Senior Manager drives his/her own modules and prepares strategic analyses that support fact-based decision making.
