When entrepreneur Herman Barentz founded Barentz in the Netherlands in 1953, he did so with the solid belief that knowledge was critical to be the best partner for the suppliers whose life science products he distributed and for his customers. More than seventy years later, the company is a leading global life science ingredients and performance materials distributor and still going the extra mile to find a better solution for its thousand suppliers and 25,000 customers in human nutrition, pharmaceuticals, personal care, performance materials, and animal nutrition.
From regional player to global leader
In 2019, private equity firm Cinven invested in Barentz to expand the company’s operations on a global scale through organic and buy-and-build growth. Since, the company has acquired more than a dozen distributors to deliver on its ambitious plans. The result is a fast and balanced growth trajectory of twenty percent organic revenue growth and twenty-two percent growth through acquisitions, leading to a turnover of 2.5 billion euro in 2022. Barentz plans to continue strengthening its geographic coverage and existing divisions through platform and bolt-on acquisitions of asset-light, principal-based distribution targets.
