Rheem, a leading international US manufacturer of heating, cooling, and water heating solutions for households and businesses, has an ambitious growth strategy into Europe. Their European Group and ESG Controller further develops the financial accounting structures, processes, and sustainability reporting to align with the US organization.

About Rheem

Founded in 1925, Rheem’s continued focus is providing comfort to millions of customers they serve across fifty countries. They’re the only manufacturer in the world that produces heating, cooling, water heating, pool and spa heating, and commercial refrigeration products for households and businesses. By 2023, its portfolio of over fifty brands made six billion dollars in global sales. Rheem’s commitment to innovation and increasing sustainability — to deliver the exactly right temperature while saving energy and water — keeps the company at the forefront of the industry.

Rheem Europe took shape with the acquisition of Intergas in 2019 and DEJONG in 2022. Intergas is a leading player in The Netherlands with gas-fired boilers and hybrid heat pump solutions. And DEJONG is a top-tier producer of hot water tanks. With these companies’ product portfolios, Rheem is rapidly developing its European presence and capitalizing on significant opportunities thanks to the region’s expansive position in combating climate change. The company continues to expand through acquisitions and the construction of a new factory in Slovakia.

As part of Rheem’s global sustainability program ‘A Greater Degree of Good™,’ Rheem Europe aims for ambitious Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) targets in honor of the company’s centennial in 2025. They’ve already exceeded its goal of training 250,000 plumbers, contractors, and key stakeholders on sustainability, by training almost 500,000. Rheem is also well on its way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by fifty percent and achieve Zero Waste to Landfill in its global manufacturing operations, and empower its customers and employees to live and work more sustainably.

Vacancy: European Group & ESG Controller

The new European Group & ESG Controller drives financial control and sustainability reporting in Europe, to align with the US headquarters’ requirements. They provide financial insights that management needs to steer the business through internal reporting, and ensure external reporting complies with relevant laws and regulations. Taking care of the company’s financial accounting structures and processes, the Controller will set Rheem Europe up for continued growth by ensuring compliance, efficiency, and continuity.

The European Group & ESG Controller also help implement the EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the resulting reporting obligations, while working closely with the Sustainability Manager.

“The European Group & ESG Controller will have a critical role in our growth trajectory. Their ability to effectively report in line with business needs as well as legal and Group requirements will enrich our financial and ESG insights.” – Gert Karenbeld, Finance Director of Rheem Europe

Day-to-day, the European Group & ESG Controller is responsible for monthly and annual financial consolidation of Rheem Europe and the resulting analysis and assessment of the figures. To ensure even greater reporting and consolidation effectiveness, the Controller also facilitates the roll-out and implementation of the OneStream consolidation system, and develops the Internal Control Framework for Rheem Europe. Critical to the growth strategy, the Controller also supports acquisitions through due diligence and integration of new operating companies within Rheem Europe.

The new Controller reports to the Finance Director of Rheem Europe and works closely with the European FP&A Lead as well as with finance colleagues at the operating companies. They interact with the US corporate team in Atlanta on consolidation, tax, treasury, and insurance matters, and liaise with the external auditor.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced auditor or controller who is ready to create the right structures and processes in financial accounting and ESG. As part of a dynamic organization in an international context, the Controller complements outstanding professional standards with deep relationship-building and a keen sense of initiative to help Rheem Europe achieve its European growth strategy.
