DCSA’s Business Analyst lays the foundation for the digital future of the global container shipping industry. A unique opportunity as an architect to translate the current data complexity into targeted digital interface standards. It is a role with impact in a committed and enthusiastic startup.
About DCSA
The container shipping industry is facing challenges such as digitization, complex regulations, cyber security and sustainability. Challenges that transcend individual companies and demand structural cooperation. That is why the Digital Container Shipping Association (DCSA) lays the foundation for industry-wide information exchange.
DCSA is a neutral non-profit organization founded by the industry’s largest players: MSC, Maersk, CMA CGM, Hapag-Lloyd, ONE, Evergreen, Yang Ming, HMM and ZIM. DCSA’s initiatives aim to make the transport industry more transparent, reliable, user-friendly, safer and more environmentally friendly. For example, DCSA designs open-source standards and frameworks that streamline the sending and receiving of data. DCSA thus facilitates structural digital innovation, across disciplines and national borders. For example, DCSA has recently published a track-and-trace standard that will be implemented by shipping lines, ports, terminals and all other parties in the logistics chain.
Currently, DCSA’s team consists of around ten people. The culture in the office is very entrepreneurial and inclusive. This makes the company feel like a real startup, yet one with the potential to radically change an incredibly lucrative multibillion-dollar industry.
Vacancy: Business Analyst
DCSA has identified a number of top priorities including creating an industry blueprint, creating data and interface standards, implementing IoT, ensuring cyber security and optimizing communications between the 6,000 ships of DCSA’s partners and the 400 to 500 major ports in the world.
The Business Analyst plays an important role in the development of data and interface standards. Together with the architect, they will determine what the digital standard of the global logistics sector will look like. This is a huge challenge due to the complexity of the logistics sector and the multitude of data and systems with which people work and communicate today. Understanding the industry and requesting and analyzing the correct information is an essential success factor for this role.
“The assignment ahead of us gives the Business Analyst a unique opportunity to create one standard from the system and information complexity of our logistics partners. If you get a kick out of seeing your ideas rolled out on a global scale, then you are in the right place. ” – Niels Nuyens, Program Director
The standards created by DCSA can be implemented by carriers, shippers and third parties, for example to enable tracking of shipments between carriers. The Business Analyst builds the information & data model, then translates it into interface standards. These lay the foundation for standard APIs, which are made available to the entire industry on Swaggerhub. This enables carriers and partners in the supply-chain to communicate digitally in a uniform way in order to streamline the logistics chain while making it more sustainable.
In this role you will work with key players in the container shipping industry and experts from all over the world. An international challenge for a Business Analyst who is well-versed, sees complexity as a challenge and wants to make a global impact.
