ASML is a leading global supplier of advanced technology systems to the semiconductor industry. The Enterprise Architect plays an important role in guiding the organization through its IT professionalization journey, with strong content, communication and leadership skills.
About ASML
ASML’s hardware, software, and services helps leading semiconductor companies worldwide increase the value of silicon chips while reducing their cost. The high-tech company has about 42,000 employees, and makes machines that electronics manufacturers use to produce chips. Advancements such as 5G connectivity, autonomous cars, and artificial neural networks rely heavily on ASML’s solutions.
Chips made by ASML’s machines also solve some of society’s toughest challenges, from advanced medical applications to renewable energy generation and usage. Their mission is to unlock the potential of people and society by pushing technology to new limits.
ASML’s latest innovation is Extreme Ultraviolet (EUV) Lithography Technology. They are the only company worldwide capable of developing this innovative technology, which allows ASML to do big things on a tiny scale.
“In 2022, which was another strong year for us, we achieved total net sales of €21.2 billion, a gross margin of more than fifty percent, and a record backlog of 40.4 billion euros.” – Peter Wennink, CEO of ASML
Nearing its fortieth anniversary, ASML is still growing fast. The company credits its success to a strong entrepreneurial culture and innovative high-tech engineering. However, strong software development practices are becoming increasingly important. The IT Architecture team professionalizes and scales up the IT infrastructure, with a focus on information management, automation, and optimization.
In the team, specialized domain architects focus on applications, cloud and infrastructure, or data and analytics, collaborate with enterprise architects who maintain and steer an overview of ASML’s architectural standards. The new Enterprise Architect will lead process design and standardization for software development and CI/CD.
Job description: Enterprise Architect
The Enterprise Architect joins this team of specialized domain and enterprise architects, and reports to the Head of IT Architecture. Although this role focuses mainly on software development and CI/CD, their mandate is to increase the maturity of enterprise architecture and development standards beyond this scope. This role raises the bar in setting architecture standards and implementing best practices. The priorities for ASML’s IT journey are digitization of processes, products and user experience; transitioning from a project-oriented to a product-centric IT organization; a multi-hybrid cloud strategy; a strong data foundation; and cyber resilience.
This role combines strong knowledge of IT development process and enterprise architecture with excellent leadership and stakeholder interaction skills, and the ability to think from the business’ perspective. The Enterprise Architect works with colleagues in their own team as well as business architects to optimize IT architecture for ASML’s key capabilities.
“In order to take our enterprise architecture to the next level, the Enterprise Architect needs to be both strategic and pragmatic. Combining an excellent understanding of best practices in enterprise architecture with the ability to work result-driven, in short sprints, and in cooperation with several stakeholders is crucial to being successful in this role.” – Frank Ritzen, Head of IT Architecture of ASML
The Enterprise Architect coaches the business in its IT transformation journey. They apply their extensive knowledge to steer enterprise architecture to the next level. Experience with transformations and the ability to connect and communicate with the business is key. This role has a high level of flexibility, to work well with ASML’s unique culture and organizational structure. They also have the creativity to tailor industry standards to ASML’s setup.
The Enterprise Architect bridges the gap between entrepreneurial ambitions and IT design, and leads process optimization efforts where needed. They enjoy working creatively and bottom-up with a multidisciplinary group of colleagues. Their ambition and curiosity play a strong role too. This is a unique opportunity for a senior candidate to make a great impact in an inspiring organization while expanding their own skillset, and potentially growing into a leadership role in the future.
