About Vlisco
Since 1846, Vlisco has been creating unique printed fabrics, which are distributed to more than fifteen countries in West and Central Africa via its own boutiques, e-commerce platform and a network of distributors. The method has its origins in the Indonesian batik technique and has evolved over the years into a distinctive, colourful design signature, in which each print has its own character and encourages individual self-expression and a sense of connection. In this way, the brand has created more than 350,000 original textile designs and colour variations over almost two centuries.
Collectors’ items
What sets Vlisco apart is not just the fabric, but what happens to it once it leaves the workshop. In countries such as Nigeria, Ghana, Ivory Coast and Benin, the prints are given their own names and meanings, and women wear them at weddings and other special occasions, as well as in everyday life. Many designs are passed down from generation to generation and are considered collectors’ items. Behind this heritage lies a production process involving dozens of intricate steps, in which hand-drawn designs are built up layer by layer. The vein-like crackles and bubble marks that result are the hallmark of every Vlisco item: perfect imperfections.

With roots in the Netherlands and strong ties to Africa, Vlisco’s culture is multicultural and warm. Craftsmanship is woven into the company’s DNA, from colour and print to the care with which colleagues treat one another. Employees work according to five core values: fun, entrepreneurial, creative, professional and caring. There is plenty of scope for personal development, and this is actively encouraged. The head office and factory are located in Helmond, where around 450 people work. There is also a second office in Amsterdam, and several teams operate from Africa.
