Vision Healthcare is a fast-growing digital-first retail platform for lifestyle, beauty, and healthy living that directly connects brands to consumers. The Data Engineer is responsible for the improvement and integration of data and data systems, including a new data warehouse structure and increased data granularity. This is an exciting opportunity for a hands-on data engineer to create a future-proof data set-up in a fast-scaling international company.

About Vision Healthcare

Vision Healthcare is a digital-first, European consumer platform that’s expanding fast. It was designed to make direct-to-consumer, marketplace and business-to-business brands easily accessible. And thanks to deep data-driven consumer understanding, Vision Healthcare is a leading, omnichannel retail company for lifestyle, beauty, and healthy living products and solutions.

The e-commerce and subscription platform offers a diverse and growing portfolio of high-end brands, such as Purasana, Flinndal, Therme, NaturaMed and Vitamin Express. Vision Healthcare’s strategy builds on today’s consumer trends: the growing adoption of preventive health & wellness solutions, the shifting channel dynamics and the fast-evolving digital media behaviours. Growth is fuelled through an active buy & build strategy, thereby continuously adding new brands and products to the platform.

Vision Healthcare has offices in Haarlem, Augsburg, Oslo, Ljubljana and Madrid. The company employs more than 500 people and is expanding quickly. Their goal is to multiply revenue over the next few years and become a leader in health and well-being products.

“We are very open to initiative, if you have an idea, you can do it. Moreover, sometimes you may have to make things up as you go, not everything needs to be tested and perfect!” – Diederik Oostburg, IT Director

Vacancy: Data Engineer

The new role of Data Engineer is focused on the integration of data and data systems. Due to Vision Healthcare’s hypergrowth, a divergence of marketing data, sales data, analytics, and BI tools took place across different people and entities in Europe. Now, a re-orientation of priorities is needed for the teams to collaborate on common goals. The Data Engineer is responsible for building the connections between data, systems and tools, and people. Besides strong data analysis and engineering capabilities, this requires a start-up mindset and proactive communication skills.

The role involves several key activities. First, due to the current monolithic data structure, the Data Engineer will untangle and rebuild the data warehouse with a completely new data model. Therefore, it is essential that the Data Engineer has strong data modelling skills. Second, sales data, marketing data and behavioral data will be assembled and integrated into the data warehouse. This may involve reconnecting different data warehouses where various parts of the data are kept, or building new data pipelines to start extracting additional data.

“The new Data Engineer is the one who really connects all the dots!” – Gaël van Liere, Product Owner & Team Lead for Business Intelligence

In addition, the Data Engineer increases and improves the granularity of data in the presentation layer. This activity involves the set-up of new systems and extraction of new data. Moreover, it aims at developing a new way of working in data & BI and therefore, the Data Engineer will also design and implement the roadmap for how stakeholders receive insights and collaborate with Analytics. Experience with agile working and sprints is therefore useful, and skills in Python/R and data workflow automation are essential.

This is an exciting opportunity for a hands-on data engineer with an appetite for a complex tech environment to future-proof the data infrastructure and boost effectiveness of a fast-scaling international ecommerce company. The position is based in Haarlem, the Netherlands, and involves a hybrid work set-up as well as some travel to other offices.
