Frontrunner in the photonics ecosystem
PHIX was founded in 2017 by Dutch tech entrepreneurs Albert Hasper and Joost van Kerkhof to manufacture photonic integrated circuit (PIC) enabled modules. The company serves several hundreds of customers worldwide, with almost half of its turnover realized in the United States. PHIX helps tech companies design, develop, and manufacture these modules that are increasingly used in next-gen technology such as the LIDAR systems of self-driving cars, quantum processors, and high-speed data communication. Compared to electronic integrated circuits, PICs can provide further miniaturization, higher processing speeds and lower power consumption— benefits driving the industry’s fast growth.
Scaling the integrated photonics packaging production
From the start, investors have believed in PHIX’s potential. The company has the backing of a supportive, well-balanced team of Dutch shareholders. Several investment rounds by the company’s backers helped accelerate PHIX’s growth. Since the start of 2024, the organization moved to its new, larger facilities and increased its team size by thirty percent. The company continues its ambitious path through expansion in the United States, strategic partnerships, and the identification of potential strategic merger and acquisition opportunities.
Working at PHIX
Currently, about fifty people work in the brand-new office in Enschede. The closeknit team counts eighteen nationalities and values positivity and ambition, tackling the challenges of the emerging industry. Together, they provide integrated design and production services to package the photonic chips that will play an essential role in many of the advanced technologies we will see in the years to come.
