Perrigo is an international over-the-counter (OTC) and personal care products company, with the speed of a commercial FMCG player. In 2015, Perrigo acquired the company Omega Pharma. For CEO Marc Coucke, this was a historic moment: the recent investments paved the way to become a global top-five player in the over-the-counter drug market.
Social developments
Due to ageing, pollution, budget cuts and new trends in health and external care, among others, the demand for prescription-free medicines and self-care products is rising. Joost Hunfeld (General Manager Netherlands) says: ‘Our business has become a fast-moving business. Perrigo wants to meet consumer needs as well as possible by responding to trends and developments.’
The product portfolio
Perrigo has a broad product portfolio. The products relieve hay fever symptoms or heartburn, help lose weight, soothe after an insect bite and ensure radiant skin. The portfolio includes well-known brand names such as Biodermal, XL-S Medical, Prevalin, Zantac and Davitamon. Based on thorough scientific research, Perrigo can make strong claims about the efficacy of the products. For example, Zantac Fast works ‘within two minutes against heartburn’ and XL-S Medical ‘leads to three times more weight loss’.
