If you’re in the market for a rare edition of a Tintin comic, a complete fossilized pterosaur or even a split screen VW camper, Catawiki is the place to look. Since launching its first online auction in 2011, it’s now the number one place for collectors to buy and sell unique items, and with 14 million visitors to the site each month, it’s growing – and fast. They’re now looking for a Marketing Intelligence Expert who’s able to channel their passion for data into this dynamic company.
About Catawiki
Catawiki started in 2008 as a way for collectors to keep track of their personal catalogues online, and they held their first weekly auctions in 2011. Now more than 35,000 items are going under the hammer each week. These catalogues are logically arranged by sector, so buyers can efficiently navigate their way to the areas of interest to them, be it movie memorabilia, Lego or kitchen collectibles.
“We had so many people telling us it would never be able to give us any revenue and there would be no potential to grow. You just have to follow your own plan – that’s what we did and it has taken us far.”– René Schoenmakers, Founder & Board Member Catawiki
Bridging the gap between eBay and traditional auctioneers, Catawiki’s unique selling point comes from the fact that these auction catalogues are compiled and curated under the watchful eye of specialist auctioneers and conducted in real time, allowing customers to buy and sell with complete confidence. Catawiki’s motto that they ‘make special objects available to everyone’ is one that crosses borders – and continents. Although the company was founded and is based in the Netherlands (in Assen and Amsterdam), its staff hail from more than 40 different countries and the website – and all its listings – are translated into 14 different languages. All auctions are offered globally. Given they serve such a large market, tracking the effectiveness the company’s various marketing messages has never been so important and Catawiki are now hiring a Marketing Intelligence Expert to help evaluate marketing performance. About the position of Marketing Intelligence Expert The Marketing Intelligence Expert at Catawiki reports directly to the CMO and works alongside the newly-created position of Head of Seller Marketing and almost 30 marketeers. Catawiki is a youthful and dynamic company and the people they’ll be working with are highly motivated and enthusiastic. This is a role that bears a lot of responsibility, but offers a great deal of opportunity as well. The Marketing Intelligence Expert will serve as the link between marketing, data science and business intelligence, and is responsible for the ongoing analysis and sharing of actionable insights of the various marketing messages that the team develop. This being the case, the ideal candidate will have considerable experience in analyzing data and using Google Analytics – and possibly SQL – to assess the effectiveness of the various marketing strategies the team are undertaking. This is a great opportunity to be part of a fast growing, dynamic and international business, which is going from strength to strength. Online marketplaces have proven to be key drivers of the online economy, and Catawiki fills an evidently much-needed gap in the market.
