OLX is a part of the global platform operator Naspers. It is the world’s leading classifieds platform focused on high growth markets. They have a clear purpose – to empower millions of people across the globe by helping them connect and share their goods and services.
Centralized CLM and BI
In Berlin a global competence center of roughly 30 people work on central Customer Lifecycle Management (CLM) and Business Intelligence (BI). The CLM data warehouse processes behavioral data of 300 million monthly users worldwide. The team leverages state-of-the-art big data tools and technology to execute hundreds of millions of targeted, fully automated and personalized one-on-one customer interactions across OLX’s marketing and product channels. The BI data warehouse offers a single point of truth about the performance of OLX in forty markets against over thirty KPI’s.
Data engineering for BI
There are two data engineering teams: one working on the CLM data, the other on the BI data. The addition of central BI to this global competence center is recent. Although the framework is now in place, a lot of development work remains to be done. Before, five different regions all used their own tools and platforms for reporting. Now, the central team pulls out relevant data to feed into a single dashboard.
Vacancy: Senior Data Engineer BI
Multiple Redshift clusters are happily humming in Berlin. Crisp and clear SQL code lets queries run as quickly and smoothly as possible on tables with up to 20 billion rows. Data Engineers with rock star SQL skills make that happen. With OLX’s business expanding and diversifying, new reports and analysis are required regularly. Working closely with the Insight Analyst, de Data Engineers develop algorithms for new requests, build them into the framework and make them operational. This requires a lot of technical skills, but also a deep understanding of the classifieds business and its metrics.
Requirements
The team needs a senior person (5+ years) with solid experience in big data environments, who should be the most advanced SQL developer among peers. Someone who is used to working with commercial tools and has already embraced Redshift or is willing to do so. Experience building data warehouses in a fast-paced, demanding online environment will make getting up to speed easier. And to fit in the team, one should enjoy working with different cultures and use English as working language.
