Part of the Maersk Group
The history of Damco goes back to the beginning of the 20th century when it was founded under the name of C.W.H. van Dam & Co. This company initially focused on providing freight forwarding services between Germany and Rotterdam along the river Rhine. Many mergers, acquisitions and reorganizations occurred across the board. Fast forward to the latest developments: Damco is now one of the five pillars of the Transport & Logistics division of the Maersk Group. The other four are Maersk Line (container shipping), APM Terminals (port and inland infrastructure), Svitzer (safety and support at sea) and Maersk Container Industry (containers).
The Maersk Group is a Danish business conglomerate employing over 88,000 people across 130 countries. In September 2016, the Maersk Group announced that they will re-group all activities into two separate divisions: Transportation & Logistics and Energy.
