Rockfield has operated its own rental platform in the Netherlands for years and is now rolling it out across Europe. Each market that joins needs the same thing from day one: reliable numbers at property level. The Financial Controller owns that discipline and the playbook behind it.
About Rockfield
Rockfield was founded in Amsterdam in 2014 and has grown into a fully vertically integrated real estate platform, covering the entire lifecycle of sustainable rental housing: investment, development, and management of homes for students and young professionals across Europe. Rockfield’s portfolio comprises more than 10,000 units with a value of over two billion euros; within the next two years, the company aims to grow that to three billion.
Growth on that scale requires patient capital. Pension funds and institutional investors from the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Japan, and Switzerland back Rockfield for the long term, including a 350-million-euro joint investment with ABP and a partnership with Ardian and CBRE Investment Management for student accommodation in high-demand European markets. A team of around 45 professionals works from Amsterdam and Madrid. The structure behind them is deliberately lean, and it is professionalizing as the platform expands across borders.

- At least five years of experience in financial control
- Background in real estate, student housing, or another property-level business
- Experience with rent rolls, service charges, and property-level reconciliations
- Experience embedding existing reporting, financial standards, and finance systems in new entities or markets
- Comfortable managing a small team and owning the numbers end to end
- Fluent Portuguese, Spanish, and English
- Based in Madrid, comfortable working close to the assets

Financial Controller
The Financial Controller is central to the platform's European rollout, which starts with five student residences in Porto and Lisbon. In every market, the role owns the numbers at property level: the monthly close, the P&L and rent roll, and the accuracy of local bookkeeping, invoicing, and accounts payable.
Numbers only stay reliable when the routines around them hold. The Financial Controller supports the annual budget and periodic re-forecasts for the portfolio, reports into asset management and fund finance on a fixed rhythm, and flags variances early rather than at year-end. In each new market, the infrastructure is built in parallel, from appointing and onboarding a local accounting, tax, and financial provider to aligning operational priorities with the local Regional Operations Manager. The work stays close to the assets, even from Madrid.
None of this remains specific to one market. Building on the reporting framework and financial standards already in place across the platform, the Financial Controller tailors them to each market and standardizes asset-level control processes so every new market can replicate them cleanly. The role also acts as the link for expanding financial control when the platform onboards its next countries, and additional Administrators are recruited as the portfolio grows. The same goes for systems: the platform’s property management and finance stack is rolled out market by market, and the Financial Controller plays an active role in that IT rollout, from configuring systems and migrating data to embedding them in the local team, and carries it into each new country.
That mandate is the opportunity. The Financial Controller starts hands-on and could grow into the broader financial control lead for other European markets Rockfield adds, with the processes and the team still to be built.
