NOWOS

A pioneer in battery repair

When Prins Doornekamp founded NOWOS in 2019, professional repair of lithium-ion batteries was virtually non-existent in Europe. Faulty batteries were simply written off, even though most can be safely repaired. Together with Jan Bartels, a veteran of battery regulation and recycling, Doornekamp – who had previously built up and sold battery manufacturer Super B – developed the processes and safety standards that made repair on an industrial scale possible. This gave rise to the mission that drives the company today. The circular use of batteries must become the norm in Europe, because every battery that is repaired prevents the production of a new one.

Circular infrastructure for Europe

European regulations are rapidly making battery circularity a requirement for manufacturers, and NOWOS has built the infrastructure to support this. Workshops in the Netherlands and France form the core of the network, with Poland in the pipeline, and the company has the capacity to handle more than 120,000 batteries a year, ranging from e-bikes and shared scooters to forklift trucks and energy storage systems. In 2024, 89 per cent of the batteries received were repaired. Brands such as Swapfiets, Dott, Voi and Decathlon already rely on this approach.

Working at NOWOS

Anyone who steps inside NOWOS will see craftsmanship on an industrial scale. The technicians who work on the batteries play a major role in determining how that work is organised, and autonomy is accompanied by clear guidelines and accountability for results. That down-to-earth, operational culture is what keeps people here. Moreover, the company is changing rapidly, with new branches and new markets on the horizon. As a result, vacancies at NOWOS arise precisely in the areas where the organisation is taking its next steps, and anyone joining now will be helping to build an industry that is just beginning to take shape in Europe.
