The Data & Analytics Central Europe-team implements the data & analytics way of thinking within the DACH-region, Nordics, Italy and Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands. This entails building a data-infrastructure within the cloud, answering questions from the core business with strong dashboards, and taking on complex challenges thanks to advanced analytics. The team consists of Business Translators, BI specialists, Data Scientists, Data Engineers, and of course the Senior Data Engineer.

The Senior Data Engineer goes above and beyond to make sure Unilever’s way of working is data-driven. This starts off with democratizing data. In other words: they make sure all data is available to all colleagues within Unilever. They keep the entire data structure running in the cloud, further develop it and improve the data governance. Furthermore, the Senior Data Engineer manages ten Azure domains which are part of Unilever’s global data platform, and expands on them.
Of course, the Senior Data Engineer isn’t completely on their own. They also lead a team of three Data Engineers who are very eager to acquire more knowledge, experience, and coaching. They also head a few smaller teams both in Central Europe and Unilever Global and external engineering contractors. A dose of strong social skills is unmissable. The Senior Data Engineer is an inspiring thought-leader and they take on their teams and lead the way in the world of data.
The Senior Data Engineer is the go-to person when it comes to engineering and they make sure everyone at Unilever has the same agenda when it comes to data. They are able to maneuver easily within all layers of the organization, aren’t blown away by the huge amount of stakeholders, and are well able to get them on board when new plans and initiatives are unfolding. Or to be more specific: when it comes to their own. The Senior Data Engineer is responsible for designing and implementing the most optimal data strategy that fits in well with Unilever’s ambition for growth.
The Senior Data Engineer reports directly to Robin Rietveldt, Data & Analytics Lead Central Europe, and works from their head office in Rotterdam or Brussels.
It’s good to know that the Senior Data Engineer doesn’t need to know everything down to a t. Experience and eagerness to learn are the most important assets to bring to this role.
