Asper invests strategically in sustainable energy projects in Europe. The London-based firm – with offices in the Netherlands and Luxembourg – has grown and professionalized rapidly over the past five years and has established itself firmly at the intersection of renewable energy infrastructure and entrepreneurship. The (Senior) Analyst will manage and support these high-impact projects.

About Asper Investments

Asper is a specialist investment management firm, focused on building sustainable infrastructure businesses. Originally part of a larger firm, the company has been independent since 2017 and is now fully owned by its management. Asper’s investment strategy centers on platform building: creating leading renewable energy businesses by investing in carefully selected assets in the start- and scale-up phase, then building thriving teams and organizations around them. In this way, Asper has already built renewable energy platforms in Ireland, the UK, the Netherlands, and Sweden, with a total portfolio value of €1.7 billion euros and combined generation capacity of 1,250 megawatt. A total of 21 million tons of CO2 emissions is projected to be avoided over the lifetime by these assets, through replacing carbon-intensive energy assets by renewable power and heat infrastructure.

Typically, Asper raises its funds from large institutional investors such as pension funds and insurance firms. Asper strategically selects local developers based on careful due diligence work and supports these portfolio companies – called ‘platforms’ – intensively to ensure they become thriving businesses. A successful exit is typically expected after five to eight years.

Asper currently boasts a team of 21 highly driven colleagues, most of whom work from the London head office. Frequent travel between offices is encouraged to allow for relationship building. Asper strongly supports its people’s professional development, while also encouraging a healthy work-life balance.

Job description: (Senior) Renewable Energy Analyst

The (Senior) Renewable Energy Analyst reports to one of Asper’s directors. They will be working on one of the investment platforms, which may include several projects along the portfolio journey: from due diligence in preparation of a potential deal, to continued intensive support following the investment decisions. Responsibilities of the (Senior) Renewable Energy Analyst include financial modeling, preparing investment committee documents, and working with portfolio teams to obtain, analyze, and structure information that feeds into strategic decisions. The (Senior) Renewable Energy Analyst will work mainly from the Dutch office in the Randstad but cooperates closely with the platform team in London, and has the opportunity to frequently travel to and spend time with the whole team.

“Unlike large energy companies, we are a small, non-hierarchical and dynamic organization. A candidate who is passionate about the energy transition will find an exciting and challenging work environment at Asper.” – Dirk Hovers, Director at Asper

This is an exciting opportunity for an impact-driven individual with a clear affinity with sustainable energy. A minimum of 24 months of work experience is expected for this role, allowing the candidate to immediately add value to Asper’s projects while benefiting from a continued steep learning curve. The (Senior) Renewable Energy Analyst may have worked previously in the energy industry, strategy consulting, or investment banking. Analytical and presentation skills are a requirement for this role; an intrinsic drive around the topic of renewables and the ability to pick up new skills quickly are key success factors. Continued on-the-job learning of specific skills around financial modeling, due diligence work, and portfolio management will be facilitated.

Asper has worked intensively in recent years on internal governance, ways of working, and team culture. With these professional basics now firmly in place, the relatively young company is ready to accelerate its business operations: a promising moment for the (Senior) Renewable Energy Analyst to join.
