One thing is clear: the era of bare bulbs and fluorescent tubes is far behind us. Technology has completely changed the face of the lighting industry. Signify responded by embracing the new reality and transformed into a modern ‘service provider in lighting solutions’. To continue to build and shape its future during this dynamic time, Signify is expanding its Strategy team.
The listed company Signify, the former Philips Lighting, is the global leader in lighting products, systems, and services. Their mission is to make the world more sustainable through energy-efficient lighting systems and help end light poverty.
“Digitization is the best recipe for sustainability.”
– Eric Rondolat, CEO of Signify
Signify is a global leader in the Internet of Things (IoT) space and actively supporting governments with their push towards Smart Cities. Their portfolio ranges from well-loved consumer products such as the Hue connected lights to professional solutions. Examples of the latter include improving in-store shopper navigation with visible light communication, horticultural lighting for vertical farms, and pioneering the successor to WiFi: LiFi, Internet via light waves. They are building out their capabilities while creating impactful partnerships with leading global players (e.g., Apple, Cisco, Google, Bosch, SAP). With around 28,000 employees in 70 countries, they generate over €6 billion in annual revenue. Three megatrends drive the growth potential of the lighting market:
- Population growth and urbanization – more demand for light
- Resource challenges – more energy-efficient lighting
- Digitization – more connected lighting

A recent example of a typical project was defining the Connected & Intelligent Lighting strategy. The market landscape and customer needs are changing rapidly, with Signify leading the digitization of light. As part of a cross-functional team, the strategists helped plan Signify’s approach. This included identifying key market segments, laying out the technical roadmap, identifying organizational implications, and developing the plan for strategy execution. After a lively discussion with the Leadership Team, the new strategy received full support and is currently being executed.
