About Goliath

It all started in 1980 with a single game. Entrepreneur Adi Golad brought Rummikub to the Netherlands, laying the foundation for what is now an international manufacturer and distributor of games and toys. Today, Goliath operates from its headquarters in Hattem and offices in fifteen countries, and its games are sold in more than a hundred. Families around the world play Triominos and Sequence, or hop from cushion to cushion in The Floor is Lava.

Those games have one thing in common. They last. Much of the toy industry runs on licenses and short-lived crazes, while Goliath builds titles that earn their place year after year. R&D centers in the Netherlands, the US, England, and Hong Kong develop new games, and targeted acquisitions keep expanding the portfolio. The mission has never changed in all those years. Goliath exists to bring fun to every household.

For all its scale, Goliath is still a family business, and that is tangible in the office. People laugh a lot and play very few political games. Colleagues take ownership without waiting to be asked, so good ideas get room to run and successes are celebrated together.

Head of E-commerce

That entrepreneurial mindset also drives Goliath’s growth online. Amazon is now the company’s largest customer worldwide, and for years its European business was managed from France. That is changing, with e-commerce getting its own seat on the European leadership team. The Head of E-commerce owns the Amazon P&L and leads the approach to the other marketplaces, with the ambition of doubling revenue.

That ambition builds on solid ground. The relationship with Amazon is strong, and European sales on the platform have more than tripled in recent years, with plenty of potential still to unlock. On Amazon, the Head of E-commerce plays two games at once. The first is the commercial game with Amazon as a customer, deciding where Goliath puts its chips in negotiations and how the terms translate into profitable growth. The second is played on the platform itself. Building on assets from the global brand team, the Head of E-commerce sets the content and advertising strategy, choosing which products get the spotlight and where budget delivers the best return.

Amazon carries the most weight, but it is not the whole story. In the Benelux, bol is becoming increasingly important to Goliath, as is Allegro in Poland. Local teams own the P&L for those platforms, while the European marketplace strategy sits with the Head of E-commerce. That strategy creates one consistent approach across countries. What works on one platform is quickly rolled out to the next, and local teams get help turning untapped opportunities into sales. Akeneo, the new product information management (PIM) system, makes the approach scalable by feeding product content from a single source to every platform.

Dedicated teams of advertising and content specialists support both Amazon and the local markets. An early priority is to assess which capabilities are already in-house and where extra expertise will have the biggest impact. The Head of E-commerce does not need to run every A/B test personally. What matters more is spotting talent and inspiring people to achieve that growth together. The role reports to Maarten Heerze, Executive General Manager Europe, and is based at the headquarters in Hattem, with room for hybrid working.

How to accelerate is largely up to the Head of E-commerce. The role has been newly defined, so there is no blueprint waiting to be executed. Instead, there is a fast-growing channel and a family business where good plans move quickly from the drawing board into practice. For someone who knows European marketplaces inside and out and wants to bring Rummikub and Sequence into even more living rooms, Goliath is the natural next step.
