Damco is at the forefront of developing innovative supply chain solutions. They are pioneers in the use of digital technology to connect and simplify international supply chains in a diverse range of industries. The Strategy Team is tasked to achieve and maintain a frontrunner position. The Senior Manager Strategy & Transformation is involved in defining and implementing the corporate strategy of the future.

Part of the Maersk Group

Damco is a subsidiary of the international Maersk Group. In September 2016, the Maersk Group revealed that they will split into two separate divisions: Transport & Logistics and Energy.

“Separating our transport and logistics businesses from our energy businesses will enable both to focus on their respective markets. This will increase the strategic flexibility by enhancing synergies between businesses, while ensuring the agility to pursue individual strategic solutions as well.” -Søren Skou, CEO of the Maersk Group

Søren Skou is CEO of the Maersk Group and Head of the Transport & Logistics division (revenue: over $ 30 billion). The division consists of five companies: Maersk Line (container shipping), APM Terminals (port and inland infrastructure), Damco (supply chain solutions), Svitzer (safety and support at sea) and Maersk Container Industry (containers).

Damco is the third biggest company within the division and well known for their sophisticated supply chain management and freight forwarding services. They have an outstanding track record of developing innovative supply chain solutions tailored to their customer specific needs. Their customers include a range of the world’s largest retailers and lifestyle brands. The long standing collaborations prove Damco’s capability to be a true logistics partner. Damco is an international company with a presence in over 100 countries, employing 11,000 people. In 2016, they reached an annual turnover of $ 2.5 billion. Read more about Damco here.

Supply chain innovation

The world around us is changing continuously, as does the industry of transport and logistics. This provides a range of attractive opportunities for companies like Damco. Currently, the biggest trend is digitalization. New supply chain models can be derived from digitalization waves, and insights due to big data analyses can lead to new, more effective solutions.

Damco is one of the biggest, most innovative companies developing supply chain management tools and is acknowledged in especially the retail and lifestyle segment. Damco’s key competitive advantages include the ability to maintain long-term partnerships with large international customers, an innovative IT-solutions mindset that is engrained in the business and its highly skilled people that have a customer centric mindset. In 2016, Damco did a comprehensive strategic review. The new global strategy is currently being implemented and refined where required.

Vacancy: Senior Manager Strategy & Transformation

The Global Strategy Department is headed by the Global Head of Strategy, Reinout Croon. The team consists of the Senior Manager Strategy & Transformation, a (junior) Manager Strategy & Transformation, a Transformation Manager and a HR Specialist.

The Senior Manager Strategy & Transformation is Reinout Croon’s right hand and the most senior member of the strategy team, which means Croon relies on the Senior Manager Strategy & Transformation to take over day-to-day management of the team when necessary. The department focuses on the implementation of the new global strategy of Damco and Maersk Transportation & Logistics. The department also develops and implements strategies and turnaround plans for specific parts of the business in alignment with the global strategy. They also support future M&A activities, explore the needs of the business (four regional teams and thirty area teams), develop and implement practical solutions and continuously challenge the strategy. What it comes down to, is making things happen.

The focus of this position is two-fold. On the one hand, they have a key position in further developing and reviewing the strategy for different parts of the business. On the other hand, the Senior Manager Strategy & Transformation is concerned with the further implementation of the strategies for Damco and the Maersk Group and the Transformation & Logistics division. For the project-based implementation, the Senior Manager Strategy & Transformation works closely together with the Transformation Managers and the Project Managers in the business.

The Senior Manager Strategy & Transformation has the opportunity to broaden their scope within Damco. They might, for example, support future M&A activities or get involved in functional specific projects.

“At Damco, we leave room for every professional to excel in the domain they are most interested in.” – Reinout Croon, Global Head of Strategy at Damco

This is an impactful opportunity for a change catalyst with a proven track record in large-scale transformations. Suitable candidates are results-driven and thrive in a fluid and challenging environment.
